KINGS of THRACE, Macedonian. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Drachm (16.5mm, 3.94 g, 11h). Ephesos mint. Struck circa 294-287 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, transverse spear in background; to inner left, bee right between E Φ facing inward. Thompson 168; Müller 421. VF, toned, porous and rough, residual find patina and a few scratches on reverse. Rare orientation of control marks.

From the Nicholas Sicurella Collection.

None of the primary references distinguish between the different varieties of how the bee or the letters of the ethnic are facing. This, and the previous and following coins demonstrate these variations. The orientation of these controls on the previous coin is the most common, while the others are quite rare.
