INDIA, Colonial. Dutch India. Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (Dutch East India Company). 1602-1800. AR “18 Stuivers” (23mm, 7.37 g). Colombo in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) countermarked issue. Struck 1661 or shortly thereafter. Dutch East India Company monogram, C above (for Colombo); all within round incuse on obverse of a Tiflis mint Abbasi of 4 shahis of Shah Abbas II, dated AH 1063 [AD 1652/3] (Cf. Rabino di Borgomale 185 [for type]; Farahbakhsh 85/7 var. [date]). Scholten 1285 (host coin date unlisted). Host coin VF; countermark VF, toned, a few stains. Rare.
