CRUSADERS, Chios. Maona di Chio. Circa 1347-1566. AV Ducat (20mm, 3.53 g, 6h). Imitating Venice issue of Antonio Venier. Uncertain mint. S/M/V/Є/N/Є/T/I to left, D/V/X and ΛNTO VMЄRIO to right, S. Marco standing right and Doge kneeling left, holding banner between them; pellet on shaft; triple pellets to left of banner; T to right of Doge / • SI • T T +PЄ DΛT Q TI • • ЄGIS ISTЄ DVCΛT, Christ standing facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels, surrounded by mandorla containing nine stars. Cf. CNI VII 32 (for type); Ives –; cf. Gamberini 394 (same). Good VF, struck with rusty dies.
