Research Coins: Electronic Auction

53, Lot: 41. Estimate $200.
Sold for $212. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

INDIA, Sind. Circa 5th Century AD. "Rana Datasatya". Pale AV Dinar (6.86 gm). Crowned Sasanian-style bust right; ball within circle of dots to right / Fire altar; Brahmi legend. Senior, ONS 149, pg. 6, 3; cf. Göbl, "Supplementa Orientalia II", LNV 3, E28. Fine/VF. Rare. ($200)

The piece in S.O. II is described by Göbl as bronze, but may in fact be a later issue of these electrum pieces, badly debased. Little has been determined about the specific origin of these coins, other than that they appear to come from the Sind.
