INDIA. Imitating Venice. After 1501. AV Ducat (2.26 gm). Struck Circa 1675-1850. Crude "Doge" kneeling before St. Mark, staff between with star at top; D/X-I in field / Christ in glory, within closed mandorla surrounded by twelve stars. Mitchiner Indian Tokens -; cf. Ives pl. XIV, 3; cf. BMC Collection 1993.3.2.689 (later imitation) IN: Bell (unpublished). Good VF. ($150)

This piece is ultimately probably no older than the mid 18th Century, when the drapery exhibited the most fluid qualities on the Venetian prototypes. The gold is good and the style is ideologically removed from the original, but the quality of Roman letters remains.
