KINGS of MACEDON. Demetrios I Poliorketes. 306-283 BC. AR Tetradrachm (28mm, 17.20 g, 7h). Pella mint. Struck circa 293-292 BC. Diademed and horned head right / Poseidon standing left, right foot on rock, holding trident; monogram to outer left, K (or E?) on rock. Newell 89 (dies LXXVIII/145). VF, struck a little weakly.

From the Demetrios Armounta Collection. Ex Classical Numismatic Group Electronic Auction 158 (14 February 2007), lot 33.

The rocks on these tetradrachms are typically worn as they are a high point on the surface. It is possible, therefore, that there are controls marks on others in this series. For instance, this particular coin is a die match for a specimen of Newell 89, but that piece is too worn to reveal the control on the rock.
