THESSALY, Larissa. Circa 405/0-370 BC. AR Drachm (19mm, 5.86 g, 12h). Head of the nymph Larissa facing slightly right, wearing ampyx, earring, and necklace; METO (very faint) running along obverse edge from approximately 8 to 7 o’clock / ΛAPI, horse grazing right, with forelegs on slanted line extending from ground line. L-S group 4, head type 18, dies O57/R2; BCD Thessaly II – (but see 230 for obv. die). Near VF, lightly toned, a hint of porosity, graffito (“A”) below horse.

From the BCD Collection.

Lorber and Shahar tentatively call the line below the horse’s forelegs a ramp, but this may just be an attempt to fix an engraving error. The letters on the obverse are not noted in their study.
