Sold for $85. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. Æ Quadrans (18mm, 2.38 g, 2h). Mint in Gaul (auxiliary mint of Lugdunum?). Struck circa 10 BC. Laureate head right / Eagle standing facing with wings spread, head left. RIC I 227; Lyon –; RPC I 508. VF, green-brown patina, traces of porosity. Scarce.

From the RVP Collection.

Giard, in Le monnayage de l’atelier de Lyon, regards this issue as a product of an auxiliary mint of Lugdunum. They were probably minted in the territory of the Lingones, the Aedui, or the Sequani, if not struck in Lugdunum.
