OLIVARIVS • DEI • GRA • REIP : ANGLIÆ • SCOTIÆ • ET • HIBERNIÆ • &c PROTECTOR •, Cromwell, in armor and holding reins and baton, left on horse with right foreleg and left hind leg raised; to right, personal coat-of-arms over arms of Scotland within ornate frame; in background, town and river view seen in aerial perspective; all within wreathed border / Blank. MI –; Vertue p. 30 and pl. XIX; cf. Nathanson 18 (for original obv. design, but arms of Lord Protector and view of London and River Thames); Eimer 195 note. Good VF, attractive dark brown surfaces, pierced at 12 o’clock for hanging. An impressive work of Simon’s medallic art.
