THESSALY, Koinon of Thessaly. Caracalla. AD 198-217. Æ Tetrassarion (29mm, 9.59 g, 3h). Struck AD 198-211. MAP AYR [ANTωNЄINOC], laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / [K]OINON ΘЄC[CAΛωN], Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm. Burrer,
MA-G 21 (same obv. die); BCD Thessaly II 974.1 (same obv. die); Rogers –. Good Fine, dark brown patina, ragged edge. Rare.
From the BCD Collection.
The use of “ω” in the reconstructed reverse legend is just a guess as it is used on obverse die. None of the above cited specimens has a complete reverse legend and the mint did not exclusively use “Ω” or “ω” at this time.
