THESSALY, Koinon of Thessaly. Tiberius. As Caesar, AD 4-14. Æ Trihemiassarion (21mm, 7.04 g, 6h). Megalokles, strategos. TIBEPIΣ ΣEBAΣTHΩ, bare head of Tiberius right / ΘEΣΣAΛ-Ω MEΓAΛO, head of Apollo right, wearing tainia; monogram at end of legend. Burrer Em. 2 (of Augustus), Series 3, 107 (A23/R86); BCD Thessaly II 918 corr. (Apollo not laureate; same obv. die); RPC I 1429 (same obv. die as illustration). Fine, brown patina, minor roughness. Rare.

From the BCD Collection.

At least two reverse dies were used to strike this issue. Upon close examination it appears that the monograms on each die are slightly different, with Burrer die R87 containing an extra element (most noticeable on BCD Thessaly I 1399).
