THESSALY, Koinon of Thessaly. Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. Æ Tetrassarion (29mm, 18.94 g, 12h). Megalokles, strategos. ΣEBAΣ-TOΣ ΘEΣΣAΛΩN, laureate head right / ΣTP[ATH]ΓO[Y] M[EΓAΛOKΛEOYΣ], laurel wreath with tie ends fluttering upward. Burrer Em. 2, Series 1, 62 (A16/R51 – this coin, obv. and rev. illustrated on pl. 2); BCD Thessaly II 916 (same obv. die); RPC Supp. S-1426A. VF, dark brown patina. Very rare – only 6 specimens were known to Burrer at the time of his study (all from the BCD Collection!).
