PHILIP II. 247-249 AD. AR Antoninianus (3.85 gm). Hybrid with Philip I reverse. Antioch mint. IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / AETERNITAS AVGG, elephant walking left, carrying rider who holds goad and wand. RIC IV 246Aa; Göbl, "Römischer Münzhort Tulln 1966" in NZ 1966, 1025; Hunter -; RSC 5. EF, thin flan crack. $95.

This interesting coin is a known hybrid type, with all sources noting the reverse type as belonging to Philip I. However, although a common type at Rome for Philip I, the reverse is not published for Philip I at Antioch. Clearly the reverse is Antioch style, so perhaps the type does exist at Antioch for Philip, or perhaps it is not truly a hybrid, but rather an authentic type for Philip II.
