LAKONIA, Lakedaimon (Sparta). Circa 35-31 BC. Æ Dupondius (25mm, 8.28 g, 10h). Laureate head of Apollo right; [E TIMANΔPOC?] behind / Artemis standing left, holding spear; to lower left, dog seated left; Λ-A across upper field, two monograms across lower field; all within wreath. Grunauer Group XIX, Series 1 or 2 (unlisted dies); cf. BCD Peloponnesos 912-3 . Near VF, green patina, scratches on reverse. Rare.

Ex BCD Collection (not in previous BCD sales).

Although the magistrate’s name is off the flan, it is very likely to be signed “E TIMANΔPOC”. The other magistrate signature - “ΓEPONTΩN” - is known from only one obverse die.
