SELEUKID KINGS of SYRIA. Antiochos IV Epiphanes. 175-164 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 17.08 g 12), Antioch in Persis. Diademed head of Antiochos IV to right; around, border of fillets. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ Apollo, nude, seated left on omphalos, holding an arrow in his right hand and his bow in his left; to left and right, monogram. CSE 1063 = SC 1526.4a = P. Strauss, “Un trésor de monnaies hellénistiques trouvé pres de Suse,” RN 1971, p. 112, 29 (this coin). Very rare. Attractively toned and with an unusual, but powerful, portrait of impressive quality. Extremely fine.
