269, Lot: 580. Estimate $150.
Sold for $130. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Lot of two (2) PB mirrors. Roman. Both depicting the Three Graces. Diameters: 3.2 cm and 3.3 cm. Handles missing.

From the Mark Staal Collection of the Three Graces.

The Three Graces, goddesses of charm and beauty, were a fitting subject for mirrors, whether for everyday or ritual use. Such lead pieces were typically buried with the deceased or presented as votive offerings. See the recent companion publication to the exhibit Cleopatra: the search for the last queen of Egypt (National Geographic Society, 2010), p. 75 for a similar, albeit slightly larger, example with handle intact.
