NORMAN, Civil War. Local/Irregular issues. Circa 1138-1153. AR Penny (19mm, 0.99 g, 11h). Watford type variety, ‘Matilda group’ (BMC i [var.]/Mack C). Gipeswic (Ipswich) mint; Rodger, moneyer. Struck circa 1141. + STIEFN[E], crowned bust right, holding scepter / [+ RODGI]ER : ON [: GIP], cross moline, with inward-facing fleur in each quarter and vertical line of three roundels set on cross. Mack 163 (same rev. die as illustration); SCBI -; BMC; North 892; SCBC 1288; Coin Register 2002, 216 (this coin). VF, find patina. Extremely rare.
