Triton XV, Lot: 916. Estimate $200.
Sold for $650. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

THESSALY, Koinon of Thessaly. Augustus. 27 BC–AD 14. Æ Tetrassarion (25mm, 19.75 g, 6h). Megalokles, strategos. ΣEBA[ΣTOΣ] [Θ]EΣΣAΛΩN, laureate head right / [ΣTPA]THΓOY MEΓAΛ[O]KΛ[E]OYΣ, laurel wreath with tie ends fluttering upward. Burrer Em. 2, Series 1, 61 corr. (A16/R50; rev. legend); RPC Supp. S-1426A. Near VF, green patina; very rare.

Until the appearance of this coin, none of the examples were struck or preserved well enough to read the full reverse legend. It is not surprising, though, to find that the Megalokles’ title was on this issue, as it is on all the other issues of Burrer’s Emission 2.
