(887.1) THESSALY, Thessalian League. Mid – late 1st century BC. AR Stater (27mm, 6.51 g, 12h). Python and Kleomachid(es), magistrates. Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath; countermark grain ear in rectangular incuse / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; [Π]VΘ-Ω[NOΣ] above spear, tripod in outer right field, KΛEOMAXI[Δ] in exergue. See A.E. Cahn 71 (14 October 1931), lot 295 (with countermark). Near VF, countermark is VF; struck slightly off center, lightly toned.
