(877.1) THESSALY, Thessalian League. Mid – late 1st century BC. AR Stater (26mm, 6.06 g, 12h). Italos and Arnias, magistrates. Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; [I]TAΛOV above spear, APNIAΣ in exergue. SNG Ashmolean 3807. Near VF, toned, scattered porosity; extremely rare.

Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath; countermark to left: grain ear in rectangular incuse / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; [I]TAΛO[V] above spear, APNIA[Σ] in exergue. For coin: SNG Ashmolean 3807; for countermark see Coin Hoards III, fig. 12, 8. Near VF, countermark weakly struck; toned, small flan split.
