THESSALY, Pelinna. First quarter of the 4th century BC. Æ Chalkous (15mm, 2.14 g, 11h). Helmeted horseman r., wearing short tunic, striking at enemy who is falling backwards and covering himself with his shield; border of dots / ΠΕ r. down, Λ below, IИ l. up, warrior, seen from three quarters behind, charging left, wearing petasos and short tunic; he is holding a spear and shield with his l., and another spear with his raised r. See CNG e-sale 205 (25 February 2009) 100 (same obv. die). Near VF, superb two-tone emerald green patina; tiny edge flaw, hardly visible, at 8 o’clock obv., a very attractive coin.

Gift of a good friend who bought it at the Stuttgart Flea Market (August 1991).
