ISLANDS off ATTICA, Aegina. Circa 456/45-431 BC. Stater (Silver, 12.27 g). Land tortoise with segmented shell. Rev. Incuse square with a skew pattern. ACGC 127. Milbank pl. 2, 12. SNG Copenhagen 516. SNG Delepierre 1836. Lightly toned. Relief lines, perhaps traces of an undertype on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.

Exactly what is happening on the obverse is not quite clear: there appear to be traces of a linear square to left of the tortoise. Could these be guide lines for the die engraver that were not removed? Or are they from an uncertain undertype?
