MACEDON, Akanthos. C. 480-470 BC. Tetrobol (Silver, 2.30 g). Forepart of lioness to right, head seen from turned toward her right and seen from above; above, floral ornament. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. SNG ANS 18-21. Toned. Clear and well-struck. Extremely fine.

From a European collection, bought in the 1980s.

An unusually nice and fine example. The lioness tetrobols of Akanthos are usually found in poor condition, unlike this splendid piece.
