SICILY, Akragas. Circa 495-480/78 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 8.79 g 1). AKRA -CAΣ Eagle with closed wings standing to left. Rev. Crab within circular incuse; below, ΕΧΑ (retrograde). Jenkins, Gela 6 var. SNG ANS 919 var. Traité I 2328 = de Luÿnes 848 (same dies). Very rare. Toned and clear, but still somewhat uncleaned. Nearly extremely fine.

Ex Triton XIII, 5 January 2010, 28 and from the collection of A. Moretti, Numismatica Ars Classica P, 12 May 2005, 1135.

The didrachm issues of Akragas with either symbols (helmet, human head, grain, etc.) or added letters (as here) are very rare, indeed. They must have been issued toward the end of the didrachm series.
