Of Great Interest to the Collector of Alexander-Type Coinage

CNG 88, Lot: 2131. Estimate $2500.
Sold for $1500. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Gold and bronze diadem. Greek, circa late 4th century BC. Repoussé gold sheet over bronze armature. Central medallion decorated with head of Herakles in the style of Alexandrine coinage within radiate nimbus (possibly signaling the figure is the divine Alexander III). Band decorated with a series of four palmettes or Isis crowns to either side of medallion. Length: 19.2cm; weight: 11.7g. Much of armature and portion of medallion missing. Highly interesting.

Ex Malter XXXII (30 November 1985), lot 400.
