MACEDON, Stobi. Titus. As Caesar, AD 69-79. Æ (26mm, 7.24 g, 6h). Dated Cos. VI (AD 77/8). Laureate head right / Tetrstyle temple containing figure of Zeus standing facing, with eagle at feet to right; acroteria on roofline, shield in pediment. RPC II 310 (citing 3); SNG ANS -; Varbanov 3802. Near VF, earthen green-brown patina, edge break. Rare.

From the Sierra Collection.

Termed “Aesculapius” by Varbanov and simply “cult figure” by the authors of RPC II, neither reference mentions the eagle at the figure’s side which identifies him with Zeus.
