...and Following Erasure

247, Lot: 100. Estimate $100.
Sold for $160. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

MEGARIS, Megara. Mid 2nd-early 1st centuries BC. Æ Tetrachalkon (20mm, 5.79 g, 1h). Laureate head of Apollo right; MEΓA[PEΩN] behind / Kithara. BCD Peloponnesos 34 (this coin); Kroll -; SNG Copenhagen -. VF, brown patina. Very rare.

From Collection C.P.A. Ex BCD Collection (LHS 96, 8-9 May 2006), lot 34.

From the same dies as the previous lot, but with the magistrate’s name erased.

Slightly more common with the erasure, which must have been decided early on as the tetrachalkon with the signature of Nikios is perhaps unique. The two make wonderful companions!
