BRAZIL, Regional Coinage. Rio das Mortes. Counterfeit AV Ingot (62mm, 36.37 g, 12h). Dated 1814. Ingot marked with foundry marks and validation and control stamps and punches. Crowned united coat-of-arms of Portugal and Spain over armillary sphere with R DAS MORT above; all in milled circular incuse; to right, N 2431 (bar registration number) and 1814 (date) in ogee incuse frame above [T]OQUE (fineness) and 23 (carat), each in square incuse, 1-2-56 (weight: 1 onça, 2 oitavas, 56 grãos), and script VC[R] (assayer’s stamp) in incuse / Armillary sphere within milled circular incuse. Prober Indice de barras falsificadas [Index of Falsified Bars] 1814-R-2431 (581). EF, adjustment marks on edge made prior to application of punches. LOT SOLD AS IS. NO RETURNS.
