Geto-Dacian Imitation

CNG 84, Lot: 927. Estimate $300.
Sold for $430. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

C. Hosidius C.f. Geta. 64 BC. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.85 g, 6h). Geto-Dacian imitation. Diademed and draped bust of Diana right; bow and quiver over shoulder / Calydonian Boar standing left, pierced by spear and harried by hound below. Cf. Davis class A, group II (for series); cf. Crawford 407/2; cf. Sydenham 903; cf. Hosidia 1. Good VF.

This piece, an ancient imitation of a Hosidius Geta denarius, was reportedly found with a Julius Caesar/Cassius mule imitation (lot 948 below). Compared to the official issue, the lettering on this imitation is quite crude. In addition, the boar on the reverse is facing left, while on official issue it faces right.
