SICILY, Katana. Circa 410 BC. Obverse and reverse dies signed by the artist Choirion. AR Drachm (4.18 gm). [AMENAN]OS above, three-quarters facing head of the river-god Amenanos, turned slightly left; crayfish left, two fish right, signature XOI below / KA[TANAIWN] right, Athena, holding large round shield and a spear, driving a galloping quadriga left; Nike flying above crowning Athena, maeander pattern below, signature COIRIWN in exergue. Rizzo pl. 14, 15 (same dies); Jameson 552 (same dies); SNG Lloyd 910 (same dies). Toned good VF, flatly struck on Amenanos' forehead, some light porosity. Rare, nearly a full signature on the reverse. ($4000)
