PHRYGIA. Apameia . Circa 133-48 BC. Æ Medallic 35mm (20.74 gm). Bust of Athena right, wearing high-crested Corinthian helmet and aegis; set within an incuse beaded circle surrounded by a raised circle with two raised borders / APAMEWN, eagle alighting on basis with meander pattern, flanked by caps of the Dioskouroi, star above; magistrate KWKOU. Cf. SNG Copenhagen 161-162; cf. BMC Phrygia pg. 83, 78ff; cf. SNG von Aulock 3466; cf. Laffaille 512. Good VF, brown patina with some rub on the high points, several patches of hard red encrustation. Very rare and quite spectacular. ($1000)
