Lead sling bullets. Greek, Hellenistic Period, 3rd-1st centuries BC. a) Blank / ΛYΣIA. Length: 2.8 cm. b) Blank / MENANOΞ. Length: 2.9 cm. c) Zig-zag pattern of pellets / ΓINA. Length: 3.1 cm. d) Blank / ΠAΠΠAΣ. Length: 3.4 cm. e) Three different monograms / Two monograms, both the same. Length: 3.9. All in good condition, patina of fourth bullet stripped. Five (5) bullets in lot.


Clive Foss has argued that names in the nominative case represent the slinger or manufacturer, while names in the genetive case represent a military leader or the individual issuing the sling bullets (“Greek sling bullets in Oxford”, Archaeological Reports 21 (1974-1975), 1).
