KINGS of THRACE. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.03 g, 11h). Sestos mint. Struck circa 297-281 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, spear behind; flower to inner left. Thompson 29. Near EF. Fine style portrait.

Another of Lysimachos’ early mints, Sestos issued a moderate output during the opening years of the third century BC. With the increased activity of the mints in Asia Minor, however, the importance of Sestos accordingly decreased, only to appear again toward the end of Lysimachos’ reign.
