ORANGE. William III. 1694-1702. AR Proof Shilling. Dated 1699. GVLIELMVS • III • DEI • GRA •, laureate and draped (fifth) bust right / MAG • BR • FRA • ET • HIB • REX • 16 99 •, crowned cruciform arms of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland; Lion of Nassau in center. Plain edge. ESC 1118 (rarity R5); SCBC 3516 var. (no proof issue listed). In PCGS slab, graded Proof 64. Extremely rare.

Ex Dr. Jacob Y. Terner Collection (Part II, Goldberg 25, 31 May 2004), lot 1936 (incorrectly cataloged as SCBC 3515).

SCBC only lists a proof for 1699 shillings with the fourth bust type (SCBC 3515). Interestingly, ESC only lists a proof for 1699 issues with the fifth bust type.
