CRUSADERS, Venetians in the Levant. Pale AV Ducat (3.40 g, 6h). Imitating Venice. Uncertain mint. ‘K-O Series’, struck in the name of Andrea Dandolo, 1344-1354. [S]/H/V/Є/H/Є/T/I/V D/V/+ ΛIDK DΛIDVIO (final I horizontal), St. Mark standing right, holding Gospels and presenting flag (type 9) to Doge kneeling left / • SITT +IЄ DΛTO TVO • • ЯЄIS ISTЄ DVЄΛT •, Christ standing facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels, surrounded by elliptical halo containing four stars to left, five to right. Cf. CNI VII 37; Ives pl. XIII, 1; Schlumberger pl. XII, 34 var. (no extra ‘V’ in obverse legend); Gamberini 344 var. (same). Good VF, weak central strike.
