UNCERTAIN EAST. Mid 4th-3rd centuries BC. AR Tetradrachm (20mm, 16.69 g). Imitating Athenian tetradrachms. Helmeted head of Athena right / Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig behind; all within incuse square. Svoronos, Monnaies pl. 111, 3; Diebolt & Nicolet-Pierre, "Recherches sur le métal de tétradrachmes à types athéniens," SNR 56, pl. 24, 16. For prototype: cf. Kroll 8; cf. SNG Copenhagen 31. VF, double-struck on reverse.

While the obverse of this imitation appears to copy the classical period “archaized” type, the reverse appears to copy a type from the archaic period (cf. Seltman groups F and G).
