Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. AR Denarius (3.66 g, 11h). Pergamum mint. Struck 19 BC. AVGVSTVS, bare head right / ARMENIA above, RECEPTA below, tiara on left, quiver and bowcase on right. RIC I 517; RSC 13; BMCRE 675 = BMCRR East 301; BN p. 154*. Good VF, toned, surface roughness.


This coin celebrates Roman victories over the Armenians. The tiara or mitra (mitre), on the reverse, is the distinctive head-dress associated with the Armenians.
