Veiled and draped bust of Demeter right, wearing stephane; two grain ears to right / KA LL ATIANWN, actuaria under sail left; retrograde G to right. AMNG I 287; cf. Mouchmov 222; SNG Copenhagen -. EF, black-green patina.


The actuaria was a merchant vessel that resembled the shape of a trireme and could be powered by both oars and sails. Ships of this type were used to transport vital commodities such as wine and grain, and are often shown on coins from the Black Sea area.
