NABATAEA. Aretas IV, with Huldu. Circa 9/8 BC-AD 40. AR Sela’ – “Drachm” (17.5mm, 4.10 g, 12h). Petra mint. Dated RY 3 and 4 (7/6 and 6/5 BC). Laureate and draped bust of Aretas right / Veiled and draped bust of Huldu right; both dates (X III) at end of legend to left. Cf. CN 104 and 106a; cf. Meshorer, Nabataea 53 and 54; DCA 973. Find patina, some weakness to strike, minor scratches. Fine. Unusual reused die with two dates. Extremely rare.

The reverse die used for this coin appears to have been originally engraved with year 3 (III) at the end of the legend, but was then reused for year 4 (X), with that Nabataean date simply added after the year 3 date (thus, XIII).

Closing Date and Time: 19 July 2023 at 11:05:00 ET.

All winning bids are subject to an 20% buyer’s fee.
