Christ Pantokrator enthroned facing / [+ KЄ ROHΘ] AΛЄΞIω, Alexius standing facing, wearing crown and chlamys, holding labarum and globus cruciger; manus Dei above. DOC 20l; SB 1925. Some luster, flan somewhat wrinkled, graffiti, some minor deposits. VF. The far rarer of the two varieties from Thessalonica with Alexius’ name appearing at the end of the obverse legend. None correctly attributed in CoinArchives and missing from many major collections. Both references cite the same two examples in Istanbul. |
