EGYPT, Alexandria. Marcus Aurelius. AD 161-180. Æ Drachm (34mm, 21.49 g, 11h). Dated RY 16 (AD 175/6). Laureate head left / Draped bust of Serapis-Ammon right, wearing kalathos and ram’s horn, above ram standing right wearing skhent, before, [small altar]; L I[ς] (date) across upper field. Köln –; Dattari (Savio) –; K&G –; RPC IV.4 Online 14705; Emmett 2201.16 (R5). Brown patina, flan flaw and large pit on reverse. Fine. Extremely rare, only two with the left facing head known to RPC. This type is often misattributed to the Zodiac series.
