CILICIA, Tarsus. Gordian III. AD 238-244. Æ (34mm, 21.23 g, 7h). Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Herakles standing right, head left, hand on hip and holding lion’s skin and club set on rock to right. RPC VII.2 3079 var. (Herakles’ head right); SNG von Aulock 6043 var. (same). Rough brown surfaces, flan flaw on obverse. Good Fine. Very rare variety of an already rare type. |
