Diademed and draped bust right; trefoil-tipped scepter to right / + ÆL[FSTΛN] M–Θ LEGC:E, manus Dei descending from clouds. SCBI 65 (Norwegian), 120 (same dies); North 768 var. (rev. legend); SCBC 1146. Lightly toned, fragmentary. VF. Very rare.

Though the crude style may be indicative of an irregular issue, the portraiture on these early Chester issues of Æthelred II varies significantly, and the catalogers of the Norwegian SCBI consider it an official strike. Furthermore, the hand types were not commonly imitated in Scandinavia.
