PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter. 305/4-282 BC. Æ Chalkous (9.5mm, 1.09 g, 12h). Kyrene mint. Struck circa 300-282 BC. Head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Eagle with spread standing left on thunderbolt; no control marks. CPE B143 corr. (no silphion plant); Svoronos 72; Asolati 42; SNG Copenhagen –. Red-brown surfaces, off center on reverse. Near VF. Very rare.

While CPS notes the presence of a silphion plant in the left field as a control mark, the photo of the plated example does not show this feature. Asolati does not mention a control mark, and the photo there confirms this reading.
