MYSIA, Pergamon. Circa 166-67 BC. AR Drachm (17mm, 2.66 g, 6h). Cistophoric type. Struck circa 135-128 BC. Lion’s skin draped over club, all within ivy wreath / Grape bunch on vine; uncertain monogram above, civic monogram to left, serpent-entwined staff to right. Cf. Kleiner & Noe series 27 (tetradrachm); Kleiner, Hoard 1-20 (same); cf. SNG BN 1758 (didrachm). Roughness, patches of find patina, cleaning scratches. Near Fine. Extremely rare.

A denomination wholly absent from Kleiner & Noe for Pergamum (where only three didrachm issues are recorded). Kleiner also records very few drachms after 128, in ANSMN 23. Only one cistophoric drachm is recorded in CoinArchives for Pergamon, a very rare coin.

Closing Date and Time: 22 February 2023 at 10:39:40 ET.

All winning bids are subject to an 20% buyer’s fee.
