ANCIENT THEMES. Homer. fl. 8th century BC. Cast Æ “Medallion” (36mm, 23.90 g, 8h). Later cast after Giovanni da Cavino, 1500-1570. OMH POC, bareheadead and draped bust right, wearing long beard / Mars with eagle at feet, standing facing in attitude of address, to left, female seated right, holding cornucopia; to right, winged figure standing left before male seated facing, head left, holding spear and shield(?); in exergue, figure of Terra reclining left and and Oceanus right with mythological creature behind each. Johnson & Martini 1235-8; Lawrence 73. Dark brown surfaces, some deposits and pitting. VF.
