Steatite scarab with nature scene. Lower Egypt. New Kingdoms Period. 1550-1050 BC. (16 mm) Scarab with central bidirectional piercing for suspension. Simple features present on back of scarab. On face, a complex scene of a recumbent gazelle facing left, head facing behind and a hippo below. To left, a man kneels wearing a lotus flower on his head (possible reference to Osiris). Hieroglyphs suggest a meaning “May beauty last eternal.”. Superb detail.
