JUDAEA, Sepphoris (Diocaesarea). Trajan. AD 98-117. Æ (23mm, 9.19 g, 12h). Laureate head right / Palm tree with two clusters of hanging fruit. Rosenberger 4; RPC III 3937; Sofaer 2. Dark green-brown patina, deposits. Fine.

The obverse legend translates as “Trajan the emperor gave.” Trajan’s issues from Sepphoris all feature this remarkable legend, which indicates that the emperor granted Sepphoris the right to strike coinage.
