Allen places the enigmatic Wisdegnotia type at the beginning of the extraordinary series of types that were issued at York during the Anarchy of Stephen’s reign. A reading of 'Wis of Ghent' has been suggested for the reverse legend. The specimen offered here ranks as one of the finest of the handful of known specimens.
