URBS ROMA, helmeted and mantled bust of Roma left / She-wolf standing left, suckling the twins (Romulus and Remus); two stars above; •SMHЄ. RIC VII 119. VF, brown patina.

From the Ken Bressett Collection. Ex Lincoln Higgie Hoard 1967 @ $7.

The Lincoln Higgie Hoard was discovered in Turkey by Lincoln W. Higgie III in 1967 and sold to me intact. Most of the 40 pieces were Æ 4 Urbs Roma copper coins from seven mints.

Commemorative coins were struck to honor both Rome and Constantinople. The Urbs Roma type alludes to the legendary founding of Rome with the imagery of the she-wolf and twins, and the latter alluding to the recent naval battle over the Licinii with Victory advancing from a conquest. The Urbs Roma series was struck throughout the empire at various mints
